Could Jesus Come Any Day Now?
By: Dr. Hilton Sutton, Th.D.
The answer based on biblical truth is NO! One may ask, why not? The answer is one you may not want to hear: The church is delaying his coming. However, before I share accurate bible reasons for my answer, let me assure you HE IS COMING! He said he would in John 14:3. “If I go away (and he did) I will come again.” It is settled, He’s Coming!
The apostle Paul collaborates with Jesus and goes into detail. Of course, the most familiar reference is 1 Thessalonians 4:16-18. There Paul writes, by the Holy Spirit, “The Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, “Come up Here” (Rev. 4:1). The dead in Christ shall rise first, and then we who remain shall be caught up with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. Paul also gives us the following references which are in perfect agreement: Romans 5:9; Col. 3:4; 1 Thes. 1:10; 1 Thes. 5:9-10.
Jesus prophesies in the gospels that the fulfillment of end time events will definitely alert us that our “redemption is drawing near”. Luke 21:28.
We can be absolutely secure in our belief that Jesus is coming. Hear are three biblical reasons why Jesus will not come any day now.
Number one: In John Chapter 17 and particular verse 20-21, Jesus asked the Father for the absolute unity of His followers. Until we Christian; All Evangelical fundamentalist get our act together with one another, We are delaying his appearing.
The unity Jesus prayed for is our absolute and firm belief that He is the Son of God, the only Savior, and was sent for the salvation of all mankind. He did not pray for our union. We can remain, Baptist, Methodist, Presbyterian, Nazarene, Churches of God, Assembly of God, Foursquare Pentecostal Holiness, Non-Denominational, Spirit Filled and Charismatic.
Our unity, concerning Jesus, would also remove sectarianism and cause all Christians to stop finding fault and criticizing one another. Unity would prevail over our divisions. Satan knows that if he can divide, the power of the gospel is weakened. The scripture teaches, “One can put a thousand to flight and two, ten thousand.” Our divisions, sectarianism and lack of unity over Jesus has delayed the SECOND thing that must happen before Jesus comes to catch us up to meet Him in the air.
Number two: Jesus clearly states in John 17:20-21 that our unity will convince the world that He is indeed the Son of God. Such unity and Holy Spirit conviction will produce a harvest of souls beyond our comprehension. We must bring into the kingdom, a massive harvest of souls prior to our being caught away.
The Old Testament prophets also speak of this harvest, especially in
Daniel 12:3.
Number three: The church is not leaving here, weak, sickly, troubled, and hoping to survive. Paul writes in Ephesians 5:27, “The Lord will present to himself a glorious church.” A Glorious church is Holy, Pure, Mature, Unified, Anointed and an absolute image of Jesus.
The glorious church really does not need to be “Caught Away,” but it is going to be. It will have accomplished its assignment as did Jesus, and be taken from earth to heaven.
All believers must recognize what Jesus and the Father want of us, and that would be quick to become obedient to our heavenly calling. Until then, we are not going anywhere! It is the responsibility of the Holy Spirit to convict all Christian and cause our obedience. Holy Spirit, increases your conviction upon all Christians.
